The Cold Dew startles the autumn evening, and the chrysanthemums gradually turn yellow. "The Cold Dew solar term will arrive at 3:00 am Beijing time on October 8th. The north has entered deep autumn, although cicadas are silent and lotus flowers are withered, chrysanthemums are in full bloom, frost stains the red leaves, creating a unique autumn scenery. At this time, the south has just entered autumn, with a mix of red and yellow, beautiful and colorful.
Hanlu is the seventeenth solar term among the twenty-four solar terms and the fifth solar term of autumn. Wang Laihua, a folklorist and researcher at Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences, introduced that there are two solar terms with the word "lu" in the 24 solar terms, one is the white dew before the autumnal equinox, and the other is the cold dew after the autumnal equinox. White dew is the beginning of heat to coolness, while cold dew is the turning point of coolness to coldness. These three solar terms are connected, recording a period of alternating cold and warm changes between summer and autumn.
After the cold dew, the sunshine decreases even more, the heat slowly fades away, the coldness gradually increases, the temperature difference between day and night becomes larger, and the air in the north also becomes drier.
The lunar time on the day of the Cold Dew solar term this year is the sixth day of the ninth lunar month. Wang Laihua said that ancient people divided the cold dew into three periods based on their observation of nature: first, when wild geese came to visit; second, when birds entered the large water, they became clams; and third, when chrysanthemums had yellow flowers. Among them, "Chrysanthemums have yellow flowers" emphasizes that chrysanthemums bloom in September, with white, red, yellow, and purple colors alternating; Straight, rolled, picked, and messy, with different postures. Because "chrysanthemums have yellow flowers", deep autumn is still full of vitality, so the ninth lunar month has another elegant name - Juyue.
Chrysanthemums have been endowed with rich symbolic meanings by Chinese culture, reflecting multiple quality characteristics such as resilience, nobility, transcendence, and elegance. Most literati and poets love to plant, appreciate, sing, and paint chrysanthemums, leaving behind many popular sayings. The most well-known one is Tao Yuanming's line, "Picking chrysanthemums under the eastern fence, leisurely seeing the southern mountains. In addition, there are also phrases such as' chrysanthemums are not favored among flowers, but when they bloom, there are no flowers left 'and' gardens sweep away the west wind, only yellow flowers do not disappoint autumn ', which are countless and cannot be listed.
On October 11th, the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, the traditional festival of Double Ninth Festival will be celebrated annually. Wang Laihua said that this year's Double Ninth Festival caught up with the Cold Dew Festival. The meaning of 'Double Ninth Festival' is auspicious. Since ancient times, there have been customs among the people such as autumn outings, chrysanthemum appreciation, climbing high, and ancestor worship during the Double Ninth Festival. Later, the Double Ninth Festival added the beautiful meaning of respecting and honoring the elderly. Everyone regarded the Double Ninth Festival as a day of respecting the elderly, climbing high to appreciate autumn, and showing respect and gratitude to the elderly.
I was amazed when I opened the door, the autumn scenery was already like this. During the cold dew season, from north to south, from west to east, autumn colors can be dark or light, with varying shades and postures. Strolling in the autumn scenery, feeling the gifts of nature, as the saying goes, "seeing all the autumn colors in your eyes is the most worthwhile thing in the world.
